Back in the winter of 2004, Sarah Borwell made her first trip
to the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa by offering to play in our first GTR/WTA Professional exhibition match.  Sarah came up with 3 other players and had a chance to meet a lot of our members, hit in some groups and just have a great time.  A year, she was asked by the resort to represent us out on the WTA tour buy being named the WTA/Grand Traverse Resort and
Spa's Touring Professional.

In th the Fall of 2005, Sarah came back to the club for a visit and had a chance to hit with a lot of our members both in groups and privately.  She was also the Guest of Honor at the ESPN 1310 Radio Sponsor Mixer.  Many of you had a chance to see and hit with her and she had a great time teaching.  We hope to get her back soon!

Junior Excellence

Sarah got the chance to hang out with our Junior Excellence Class and hit some balls.

Sarah had a chance to play out points and answer questions on what it takes to become a great player

Question of the Day:
"Do you have a boy-friend," asked by one of the players.

Answer "No Time"

"Mine"

Katherine Amalfitano pushes Sarah out of the way so that she can handle the oncoming ball

How did you start playing tennis?

Parents took me to a local club.

What is your best tennis moment?
My collegiate career, being ranked top 10 and competing at Nationals.

What is your most embarrassing tennis moment?
Haven't really had one, everytime I hit the back fence is pretty embarrassing

If you didn't play tennis what would you like to do?
Football player in America.

Do you collect anything as you travel around the world?
Used to collect shot glasses, but nothing anymore, telephone numbers I guess of people I meet

Which tennis player do you most admire and why?
Sampras because he has a strong work ethic and refused to give up even when people were doubting him.

Are there any myths you would like to dispel about the pro tour?
Its pretty lonely, but it is actually a load of fun. Everyone thinks its quite glam, but seeing some of the places I've played in, it really isn't.

What do you like least and most about playing tennis?
Least: Traveling on greyhound buses around
America and being away from my friends.
Most: Meeting new people, training hard and seeing the improvements

What 5 words would you use to describe the life of a British tennis player?
Fun, Hard work, Lonely, Challenging, Rewarding

With the benefit of hindsight, is there anything you would do differently for your tennis?
I wish I would have played more pro tennis tournaments in America, whilst playing for the University of Houston

Do you have any comments about the state of women’s tennis today?
Improving, many more people are playing so its a lot more challenging and you have to be strong in all areas
